Why Are They So Quiet? Exploring Reticent and Passive East Asian ESL Students in the U.S. Classrooms

East Asian ESL students in the United States are frequently perceived as reticent, timid, and unsociable class activities discussions. The article reports a literature review investigating possible causes of actual condition students’ participative performance finds out feasible accommodations to provide them. Cultural background, foreign language anxiety, classroom norms, gender/age discussed factors influencing willingness speak class. Accommodations regarding issue include use written communication online learning tools. Gaps implications for future research formulated end.
